Up From the Prairie: Museum Guide

(by The North Eastern Illinois Historical Council [N.E.IL])

The North Eastern Illinois (N.E.IL.) Historical Council was incorporated on January 15, 1986 with 25 charter members for the purpose of getting together to share ideas on how to improve their organizations. Meetings are hosted bi-monthly by members where N.E.IL. delegates have the opportunity to view the host historical society or museum. Programs or workshops are held periodically, covering such topics as the care and preservation of artifacts, financial or insurance concerns of non-profit organizations, improvement in museum management and the latest techniques used for exhibiting artifacts, just to name a few.

Members include a delegate and an alternate from each historical society or museum. An individual membership is available for the person who has an interest in museum activities such as care of a collection.

Printed brochures are available handouts to visitors that state the general information about the historical society or museum in N.E.IL. The umbrella council of N.E.IL. has 49 members.

(Note: The information listed below is from the actual brochure printed by the North Eastern Illinois Historical Council (N.E.IL.). The actual brochure includes this, plus additional, information about each Historical Society and Museum (ie: directions, hours, fees, etc..) and is available upon request from the Mount Prospect Historical Society, 101 S. Maple St., (847) 392-9006).
