Mount Prospect Historical Society’s “Step Back in Time to 1917 and Toast Our New Town!

Approximately 90 people gathered Saturday night at Rob Roy Country Club in Prospect Heights for the Mount Prospect Historical Society’s sixth annual History in the Headlines dinner. This year’s theme coincided with Mount Prospect’s celebration of its incorporation 100 years ago.

The evening was imagined as a dinner at which townsfolk celebrated their historic achievement with a German meal and a speech by a renowned suffragette of the time, Alice Paul, played by living history actress Leslie Goddard.

“Alice Paul was the organizer of the first picketing demonstrations ever held outside the White House.  She spearheaded parades, lobbied politicians and endured imprisonment for women’s rights.  A fearless and innovative pioneer, she remains an icon in the struggle for justice and equal rights,” said Goddard.

There was also a challenging Mount Prospect historical trivia competition during Ms. Paul’s intermission and many party-goers dressed in the manner of 1917, wearing wore yellow sashes, created by Paula Zoern-Loga, that advocated for women’s right to vote.

Two tickets to see the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” at the Private Bank Theatre, along with the hit show’s soundtrack CD and a copy of Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton, were also raffled. Brian and Wendy Lambel of Mount Prospect were the winners.
