She worked as a local journalist, she was the first Public Information Officer for the Village of Mount Prospect, and she was the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce. She was also the president of the Mount Prospect Historical Society for many years. She started many of the community events that are still going today. Some of the key events that she initiated are the Farmer's Market and the Teddy Bear Walk. She is also known for having published a photo history of Riverview Amusement Park. \nThe Mount Prospect Historical Society especially appreciates Dolores Haugh for all of the hard work that she did while she was the president of the Historical Society. Dr. Koester was born in Germany and trained in Chicago. She had plans to do missionary work overseas when she was told that young Mount Prospect needed a doctor. Louise weighed her choices and decided that it was her calling to go to Mount Prospect and help the small community. \nIt was unusual that Mount Prospect\u2019s first doctor was a woman. At the time, there were very few female physicians in America and most were in larger cities. Because of her gender, Dr. Koester was faced with people who doubted her abilities. Pankonin as the first president. \nOne of the its many contributions to the village is its aid in creating the Mount Prospect Public Library. Established in 1929, the library was dependent on members who willingly volunteered their time to collect books and funds for its operation. The Mount Prospect Women's Club operated the library until it became tax-supported in 1943. \nSome of the other organizations the Mount Prospect Women's Club has donated to are the Mount Prospect Fire Department, the Mount Prospect Police Department and the Mount Prospect Historical Society. Back in the 1920s, obtaining a vehicle license was as simple as filling out a form and sending in a check. Applicants were required to register not only their cars and trucks, but also their horse-drawn wagons! This was a period of time when rural society had not completely transitioned to using only automobiles as transportation. \nHowever, like vehicle registration today, vehicle licenses were mandatory and needed to be renewed annually. Prospect's most historic buildings was severely damage in a fire that happened early Sunday morning. The Busse building was constructed in 1926 by William Busse. The building is situated on Main Street between Northwest Highway and Busse Ave. \nThe first businesses that were housed in the Busse building were Otto H. Landeck Men's Shop, Meeske's Market, the Post Office and the National Tea Co. Sakura Japanese Restaurant is the same storefront as Otto H. Landeck Men's Shop and Meeske's Market. The Chamber of Commerce and Picket Fence Realty is where the Post Office and National Tea Co. were. The Central Continental Bakery was the second home to Meeske's Market, which was also affected by the fire. It is quite tragic that one of our community's oldest buildings will be erased from Mt. Notice that Alvina's wedding dress is dark instead of white. During the 19th c., brown or dark wedding dresses were common among the working class. Frontier practicality deemed it necessary to re-use clothing instead of purchasing new ones. Prospect were surprised to find the remains of a Navy Cougar Jet that had crashed to the surface near Weller Creek. Denis R. Daniels was an eighth grader at the nearby Central School. In a letter accompanying the images of the downed aircraft, Daniels recalled that he saw the parachute of the pilot deploy, and then rushed to the scene of the crash during his lunch hour to capture these dramatic photographs.
