“Grave Conversations” Cemetery Walk

SET FOR September 23, 2017

Visit and talk with people from the past.

As part of Mount Prospect’s Centennial Celebration, the Mount Prospect Historical Society will once again host their “Grave Conversations” Cemetery Walk from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery on Elmhurst Avenue just north of the Mount Prospect post office.

Sponsored by Friedrichs Funeral Home; Busse Automotive; and Busse’s Flowers and Gifts, the Walk has been a popular community event in the past, and the Society is excited to be bringing it back in conjunction with the Village’s Centennial Celebration, said Deb Rittle, co-chair of this year’s Walk.

Local residents will portray men and women from Mount Prospect’s history who helped shape the community we know today.  As visitors walk through the cemetery, costumed actors will talk about the people they are portraying and converse with visitors.

Highlights will include Will Wille portraying his great-uncle Adolph Wille, owner of Wille’s Buffet and Tavern; Village Trustee Mike Zadel as William Busse, Mount Prospect’s first Mayor; and Historical Society Board members Neal Bradley as Fire Chief Frank Biermann and Jill Friedrichs as Ida Meyn, wife of blacksmith Herman Meyn.

Cemetery visitors this year will also enjoy meeting Lawrence Hodges, Meta Bittner, Fred Meeske, Sophie Mueller, William Kirchhoff and Charlotte Wuerffel.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to speak with Mount Prospect residents of the past.

Admission to the walk is $10. Visit the Mount Prospect Historical Society website at www.mtphist.org to pay through PayPal or call 847/392-9006. Tickets will also be available at the gate the day of the event.

Proceeds benefit the Society’s educational and preservation efforts.  Phone 847/392-9006 for more information.
