SUMMARY:Monthly Needlecraft Night
DESCRIPTION:Swedish huck weaving dates from the early 1600s Sweden – the floss floats across the top weft of the material leaving the reverse side blank. The designs look similar to complicated weaving patterns but are actually done as simple needlework. During this class\, we’ll provide the materials to make a bookmark. After the class\, you’ll feel confident to make a beautiful hand towel set\, similar to those in our grandparents’ homes. \nAll experience levels are welcome. Advance registration is recommended and a $5 donation is suggested. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Monthly Needlecraft Night
DESCRIPTION:Get out your needles and thread. The Mount Prospect Historical Society will be hosting Monthly Needle Craft Nights. Join us the second Wednesday of each month in Central School (103 S. Maple St.\, Mount Prospect) from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. \nBring your own knitting/crocheting/embroidery project or try our spotlight project each month. All experience levels are welcome. Advance registration is recommended and a $5 donation is suggested. \nThe spotlight project on June 14 will be iris paper folding. Iris folding is a paper craft technique that involves folding strips of colored paper in such a way to form a design. The center of the design forms an iris—a shape reminiscent of the iris diaphragm of a camera lens. \nWe look forward to seeing you at this fun monthly program where you can learn a new skill\, chat while working on your own project\, or share your knowledge with other needlecraft enthusiasts.

SUMMARY:Breakfast at Tiffany's/Little Black Dress Afternoon Tea with Leslie Goddard
DESCRIPTION:Versatile\, dependable\, and affordable\, the Little Black Dress\, or “LBD”\, has become the fashion equivalent of a Model T Ford. This illustrated lecture explores the history of this fashion icon. Learn how Chanel helped dissociated black from mourning\, how Audrey Hepburn helped establish the LBD; and how it has been reinvented by everyone from Betty Boop to Prada. We encourage attendees to wear their favorite version of the LBD for our ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s themed tea. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Movie Night at Historic One-Room Schoolhouse
DESCRIPTION:Come join your neighbors to watch the 1950 Technicolor\, musical-comedy “Tea for Two\,” starring Doris Day and Gordon MacRae\, while enjoying the ambiance of inside the 1896 one-room Central School. \nThe movie will be shown in the Mount Prospect Historical Society’s schoolhouse at 103 S. Maple St.\, on Wednesday\, March 21. The building will open at 6 p.m. and the movie starts at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. The movie lasts approximately 1-1/2 hours. \nSet in the Roaring 20s\, “Tea for Two” features Doris Day as Nanette Carter\, a socialite with show business aspirations. The movie and music is loosely based on the 1925 stage musical “No\, No\, Nanette.” The film was the first in which Doris Day received top billing and marked the first time she danced on-screen. \nWhile there is no cost to enjoy the movie\, donations are graciously accepted to support the many educational projects of the Society and help to pay for upkeep on the 1906 Dietrich Friedrichs house museum and the 1896 one-room Central Schoolhouse. For more information about contributing to the Society\, phone 847/392-9006.

SUMMARY:Skate for History on President's Day
DESCRIPTION:On Presidents’ Day\, Feb. 19\, local schoolchildren and their parents will have the opportunity to enjoy a roller skating party being held to help preserve Mount Prospect’s 1896 Central School and to support the Mount Prospect Historical Society. The party will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at the Central Community Center (CCC)\, 1000 W. Central Rd.\, Mount Prospect. \nFor the 14th consecutive year\, the Mount Prospect Historical Society\, in cooperation with the Mt. Prospect Park District\, is hosting the party to support their efforts to preserve Mount Prospect history\, explains Kirsten Zinzer\, skating party chairperson. \nAfter a 15-year effort\, the schoolhouse was completed last February in time to host Mount Prospect’s 100th birthday re-enactment ceremony. Funds from the skating party and other efforts will be used for continuing enhancements to the 1896 structure and to support the overall efforts of the Historical Society.\nAdmission for the skating party will be $5 per person. A limited number of skates will be available for rental from the park district at an additional cost of $5. But it is suggested that skaters bring in their own skates\, which will be subject to inspection by park district personnel to prevent damage to the rink. \nDisc jockey services for the afternoon are being provided by the Park District. \nWhile the skating party is open to students from all schools in the Village\, the Society and the park district do request that children in fourth grade and under be accompanied by a parent. \nPop and snacks will only be available through the park district’s vending machines.
