Mount Prospect Fire Department and Historical Society team up for sneak preview of new fire station
Those who have anticipated the opening of Mount Prospect’s new Fire Station 14 are in for a treat. On Friday, May 21st, from 6 to 10 p.m., the Mount Prospect Fire Department will hold a preview party to benefit the efforts to restore the 1896 Central School, the structure in which the department was founded.
“Many people are surprised to learn that the Central School was the site of the formation of the Fire Department on September 29, 1913,” explained Greg Peerbolte, executive director of the Mount Prospect Historical Society. “They certainly have come a long way from those days. The entire force was all-volunteer and its equipment was comprised of eight buckets, two axes, two pike poles, an extension ladder, and a roof ladder.”
“We are certainly grateful to Chief Mike Figolah and his department for their love of history and their support of our organization. It is sure to be a fun evening for a great cause.”
The evening will include tours of the new station, a “Firehouse dinner” of chili, hot dogs and hamburgers, an open beer and wine bar, live entertainment, an auction and giveaways. The cost is $40 per person and reservations may be made at the Historical Society, 101 South Maple Street, by phone at (847) 392-9006 or via Paypal on this website.
The event is being sponsored by local attorney David Roe.
