Movie Night A Success!

SILENT MOVIES ATTRACTED CROWD WEDNESDAY EVENING

movienight3Approximately 50 children and adults joined the Mount Prospect Historical Society Wednesday night (August 13) for an evening of nearly 100-year-old silent movies at the museum campus, 101-103 S. Maple St., Mount Prospect.

They brought their chairs and blankets and enjoyed an evening beneath the stars as they watched several silent movies featuring Felix the Cat, Buster Keaton, Our Gang and Charlie Chaplin. Mount Prospect Pianist José Sandoval provided much of the background music for the films, just as pianists around the country would have done during the early days of cinema.

movienight1Those attending also had a chance to walk through and see the progress on the 1896 Central Schoolhouse which is currently undergoing restoration.

movienight4The Mount Prospect Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which is committed to preserving the history of Mount Prospect, Illinois, through artifacts, photographs and both oral and written memories of current and former residents and businesspeople. On its campus in the heart of the Village, the Society maintains the 1906 Dietrich Friedrich house museum and carriage house and an ADA-accessible education center. The Society is also in the midst of an adaptive restoration of the 1896 one-room Central School, which was moved to the museum campus in 2008.
