Christmas Open House with the Friedrichs

Friedrich MuseumThe Mount Prospect Historical Society will host “Christmas with the Friedrichs,” a free Christmas open house in the historic 1906 Dietrich Friedrichs House Museum, located at 101 S. Maple St., Mount Prospect from 1:30 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6.

“We invite families to tour the family home of Dietrich and Lena Friedrichs and their daughter, Bessie, to experience Christmas as it was celebrated by German-Americans in Illinois in the 1920s.  The home will be decorated much as it would have been back then,” explained Lindsay Rice, executive director of the MPHS.

“This is the first event presented by the Society’s new Living History Committee,” said Judy Lamac, one of the organizers.  “The goal of the committee is to create educational and interactive programs for the Dietrich Friedrichs House Museum and eventually for the Central Schoolhouse, too.”

After the guided Christmas tour, participants will have the opportunity to take a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus; learn how to make traditional German Christmas decorations; and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies.

While this event is free, Rice said, donations are always welcome.
