Busy Holiday Weekend

Attachment4The Mount Prospect Historical Society held events on Dec. 5 and 6 which entertained and educated hundreds of local adults and children about their community’s past.
Attachment1The 27th annual Holiday Housewalk Friday night attracted hundreds of people who annually enjoy exploring the Village’s unique homes, all decorated for the holidays by the owners with the help of local florists.  Five homes along South Main and South Emerson Streets and South Church were opened this year.  An additional four homes’ histories were highlighted on podiums outside for tour-goers to read and enjoy.
Attachment0Then, on Saturday afternoon the Society hosted the first-ever “Christmas with the Friedrichs” event, a free Christmas open house in the historic 1906 Dietrich Friedrichs House Museum, located at 101 S. Maple St.
Attachment2Volunteers provided guided tours of the house where Dietrich and Lena Friedrichs and their daughter, Bessie, lived, decorated for Christmas as it was celebrated by German-Americans in Illinois in the 1920s.
After the tour, participants had the opportunity to take a photo with Santa; learn how to make traditional German Christmas decorations; and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies.
